38th Kisei at Madrid

Iyama Yuta won the first match for the Kisei title by only 0.5 point. We will upload photos of the tournament and the wall-list for the side event soon. Thank you all for make this event posible.

Nam-Ban Madrid Go Club is proud to host the first game of the final match for the 38th Japanese Kisei Tournament.

The game will take place in Alcala de Henares (Madrid) on January the 11th-12th 2014.

The current champion Iyama Yuta (9D) will fight for the title against the challenger (winner of the league currently in progress).

The game will last for two days, with a main time of 8 hours for each player.

Nam-Ban Madrid Go Club will organize an Open Side Tournament for amateur Go players parallel to the Kisei title game.

Both the Kisei and the Open Tournament will take place at the luxurious Parador de Alcala de Henares: view map.

About the Kisei

The Kisei Tournament is the most prestigious professional tournament in Japan with the largest worldwide prize pool of ¥42,000,000.

The Nihon Ki-in and the Kansai Ki-in Associations are the main organizers of this event, sponsored by the Yomiuri Shinbum Newspaper.

Only two players in history, Honinbo Shusaku and Dosaku, were honoured with the Kisei title (which means "Go Saint") before the tournament was officially celebrated for the first time in 1976.

The current champion is Iyama Yuta (9d) who will have to deffend his title.

The challenger will be choosen in a league, currently in progress, but in which there are top proffesional players like Cho U, Yamashita Keigo or Cho Chikun.

September 26th update

Yamashita Keigo Meijin (9p) won the A League and Murakawa Daisuke (7p) won the B league so one of them will be the challenger for the final match. Stay tunned! :)

November 14th update

We have a challenger! Yamashita Keigo (9d), current Meijin and Honinbo title-holder, will play against Iyama Yuta (9d) for the Kisei title.

This game will be a very exciting game between the strongest japanese professional players and you can enjoy it live in Madrid.

Kisei Open Side Tournament

B Class tournament with 4 rounds.

40 minutes main time for each player and 2 period of 20 seconds (30 stones in 5 minutes Canadian byo-yomi).

The Open Tournament schedule will allow the players to follow the comments of professionals for the Kisei game and participate in the side events as well.

Train

The best alternative for price and speed is to take the "Cercanias Renfe" train line from Atocha or Chamartin. Both C-2 and C7 lines go to Alcala de Henares from there

Unfortunately there is no other direct connection between Alcala de Henares and the Airport. If you want to go there in public transport you will have to do the following:

  • Take the Metro line 8 (pink) from the Airport to Nuevos Ministerios (around 3€)
  • On Nuevos Ministerios take the Cercanias Renfe line C-7 or C-2 (they go both in the same direction) to Alcala de Henares (around 2,55€)
  • Walk a sort distance from the Cercanias station to the Parador
